Sundays in Lent: Liturgy of St Basil
and Pan-Orthodox Vespers
Saturday and Sunday worship are always resurrectional, and Lent does not change their character. At the Divine Liturgy on Sundays in Lent, however, much longer prayers are read at the consecration of the bread and wine. This service is called the Liturgy of St Basil, after the one who wrote these prayers.
Each Sunday in Lent is traditionally associated with its own theme. Beginning March 13, a pan-Orthodox Vespers service is served each Sunday at 4 PM at a different area church, followed by a meal.
